Swapan Seth made an admittedly rare trip into town (from his home in Gurgaon) to give a talk on a curious subject – curiosity. Held in an upmarket store, the talk saw friends of the host, Radhika Gupta, and Seth make up some of the audience. However, conspicuous by his absence was Suhel Seth, the brother of the speaker. “A trip to Delhi is a mammoth undertaking,” confessed Seth, “I rarely go out – I make the trip very rarely.” Delhi also came up in unflattering references – a friend of Seth’s stated emphatically that there were few people in town you could have a knowledgeable conversation with.
In fact, she insisted you couldn’t talk to almost anybody in this city unless you were a few drinks down!
Seth discussed everything from
Poonam Pandey to Chopin at the session. Textile designer Namrata Dutt told us later, “We’ve been friends for many, many years and have gotten to know each other better on road trips where we always questioned each other. We discussed absolutely everything, and it’s still like that. We try and catch up once or twice a month, and sometimes, our conversations begin at 11 in the night and go on till 5 in the morning.”
